Green IT is more than a buzzword
One of the latest “buzzwords” green IT looks at how technology companies can be environmentally friendly by implementing policies that reduce carbon footprint and/or raise environmental awareness

The concept of green IT will continue to have importance for a long time to come but I am not altogether keen on the phrase as a buzzword because it suggests a large number of people are getting caught up in a wave of unjustified excitement and enthusiasm.  With buzzwords, all too often there is just no substance there.

But there are genuine concerns about the planet.  The majority of responsible individuals and enterprises do not want to impact on the environment more than is absolutely necessary.  Indeed they want to find ways to reduce their carbon footprint.

Green IT is a serious concern and justifiably so.  When prospective clients at Melbourne Network Solutions are discussing their IT needs with me, the company’s green credentials are a big issue.

It might seem like a hassle but, in the long term, it makes financial sense for IT companies to be environmentally innovative and proactive, looking at ways they can become environmentally more responsible.  At Melbourne, cool aisle containment and virtualisation services show you can combine being green and commercially astute.
