Ground-Gas Solutions Ltd sign exclusivity deal

Manchester environmental consultancy, Ground-Gas Solutions Ltd, has received a major vote of confidence after signing an exclusivity agreement with Shawcity, the UK’s largest PID* hire company.

The agreement will see Shawcity exclusively recommending the Manchester Science Park based Ground-Gas Solutions as its consultant of choice for the Gasclam - an innovative gadget which enables continuous monitoring of ground gases at landfill and brownfield sites.

Simon Talbot, Managing Director at Ground-Gas Solutions, explained, “The Gasclam is an innovative device that fits inside a borehole in the ground and remains in place, continuously monitoring gases in the ground, such as methane and carbon dioxide.

“The Gasclam is a new technology and Ground-Gas Solutions Ltd is currently the only company in the UK to have an array of Gasclams, which are used as part of our data capture and consultancy work,” he continued.

“We are delighted to sign this exclusivity agreement with Shawcity and view the deal as another step towards achieving our aim to become the UK’s leading specialist consultancy in continuous ground-gas data capture, analysis, risk assessment and remedial design.”

Developed by University of Manchester spin-off company, Salamander, and launched last year, the ATEX certified Gasclam allows data of high temporal resolution to be widely available for the first time when assessing ground-gas risk.

Simon explained that prior to the development of the Gasclam, the norm was for a consultant measuring ground-gases to physically go to a site every one or two weeks, and measure the gas concentrations.

“This conventional method is not ideal as the measurements taken still leaves considerable uncertainty in the prediction of gas risks,” Simon continued.

“The Gasclam, however, provides reliable information that helps in the understanding of what is happening in the ground and, since it was launched, it is actively changing how ground-gas is monitored on brownfield and landfill sites.

“With its focus on the Gasclam, alongside the knowledge and experience of its staff, Ground-Gas Solutions Ltd is already leading the way in the ground-gas data capture and analysis sector,” he concluded.

*A photoionization detector or PID is a type of gas detector. Typical photoionization detectors measure volatile organic compounds and other gases in concentrations from sub parts per billion (ppb) to 10,000 parts per million (ppm). The photoionizaton detector is the most efficient and inexpensive type of gas detector and they are capable of producing instantaneous readings and/or monitoring continuously.
